Someone had mentioned pull-ups earlier....here's another simple but effective exercise to add ...DIPS

Dips are a great exercise for just about anyone , a great chest, shoulder, triceps combination exercise...

Not easy to do a lot of reps either (for beginners)...but one where you can work up to ,and if you work at it, the reps will eventually get easier.

I'm starting to like doing Dips.. before it was so hard to finish one set but now it's quite easy. It's a really good tricep workout.

Everybody wants the flashy gadgets, gimmicks, etc.

But it is amazing what you can do with basic exercises. Dips, push-ups, pull-ups, etc.

i do dips for chest, i like to finish my chest workout with them.. you have to tilt forward slightly, thats the trick to hitting the chest and not triceps.. i used to hang a 45lb plate around me doing them and have hung 2 of them before but now my 235lb bodyweight works,, gosh ive got to get down there again... went to a high school football jamboree last night and being there -- made me really want to get in some good shape again.. almost everyone has let theirselves go and there are very few bodybuilders around.. would be nice to be in top shape again, at those outings..

reverse dips for triceps btw..

When you do Dips what would you say is the muscle you work out the most, Chest or triceps ?

Derek,

I believe that has to do with the dip equipment you're using, wide(V) vs. straight and your body lean. I think the V shaped dip equipment and a lean in will work the pecs more while the straight armed dip equipment and a straight body will work the triceps more.

I like dips as well. I do dips w/ the "dip machine" at the end of my chest/tricept day. I usually do 3-4 sets w/ very high reps (25-40 reps), w/ light weight (about 40 pounds less than I weigh). My triceps feel it the next day every time!

You guys are coming up w/ some good topics!

Here's a nice tricep routine that will get your arms pumped quick!

Take a relatively light dumbell...and do one arm triceps extensions...do 10 reps, switch hands, do 10 reps, immediately switch back and do 9 reps with each arm, then immediately go to 8 reps all the way down to one rep!

By the time you're done ,the back of your arm will be blown up with blood flow...this is also a great way to finish the arms!

Dips are great, just avoid if you have dislocated a shoulder, and make sure you don't let your arms go below parallel.
